Solve PC problems over a remote connection

Overview

A video explaining how to use Quick Assist in Windows.

Quick Assist is a new app in Windows 10 that enables you to receive or provide assistance over a remote connection. We encourage you to try Quick Assist for a more streamlined, easy-to-use experience.

Quick Assist

  • To open Quick Assist, select Start > Windows Accessories > Quick Assist. 
  • Give assistance
    • Select Start  > Windows Accessories > Quick Assist (or select the Start  button, type Quick Assist in the search box, then select it in the results). 
    • Select Assist another person, then send the 6-digit code to the person you're helping.
    • When they've entered it, select either Take full control or View screen.
    • Select Continue and wait for the person you're helping to allow the connection. 
  • Get assistance
    • Select Start  > Windows Accessories > Quick Assist (or select the Start  button, type Quick Assist in the search box, then select it in the results). 
    • In the Code from assistant box, enter the 6-digit code you were given, and select Share sceen.
    • Wait for your helper, then select Allow in the window that displays.

Remote Assistance

Windows Remote Assistance lets someone you trust take over your PC and fix a problem from wherever they are.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, type remote assistance, and then select Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer from the list of results.
  • On the Remote tab, select the Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer check box, and then select OK.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, type remote assistance again and select Invite someone to connect to your PC and help you, or offer to help someone else.
  • Select Invite someone you trust to help you.
    • If you've never used Easy Connect, select Use Easy Connect.

    • If you've used Easy Connect before, select your helper’s contact name. To invite someone who isn't on your contact list, select Invite someone to help you.

  • Follow the instructions.

Easy Connect

With Easy Connect, the person you're helping will give you a temporary password. You can then use this password to directly connect to that person's PC.

  • Go to the search box and enter remote assistance, then select Invite someone to connect to your PC and help you, or offer to help someone else.
  • Select Help someone who has invited you.
  • Do one of the following:
    • If you’re using Easy Connect for the first time, select Use Easy Connect.

    • If you’ve used Easy Connect before, select the contact name of the person you want to help. To help someone not on the list, tap or click Help someone new.
  • Follow the instructions.
