NFS role takes a long time or fails to come online on a Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster

Assume that you have a Network File System (NFS) file server that's configured as failover cluster in Windows Server 2012 R2. The failover takes a long time and may potentially time out to come online after you move the NFS role from one node to another.

This issue occurs because the NFS server tries to discover all the mount points present in the current volume and queries or processes many records when a failover happens. This results in Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) timing out in the cluster and failing to come online.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
