How to install the update

To install the cumulative update for Lync Server 2013 web components server, use one of the following methods.



Method 1: Cumulative Server Update Installer

The Cumulative Server Update Installer applies all updates for the appropriate server role in one operation. To use the Cumulative Server Update Installer, follow these steps.

Note If User Account Control (UAC) is turned on, you must start the Cumulative Server Update Installer by using elevated permissions to make sure that all updates are installed correctly.

  1. Download the Cumulative Server Update Installer.
  2. Run Cumulative Server Update Installer by using the UI or a command prompt.

    Note When you click Install Updates, the UI indicates which updates are installed.

    To run the Installer, run the following command:

    LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe 
    Notes The following text describes parameters that you can use together with the LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe command:

    • The /silentmode option applies all applicable updates in the background.
    • The /silentmode /forcereboot options together apply all applicable updates in the background. Additionally, these switches automatically restart the server at the end of the installation process, if it is necessary.
    • The /extractall option extracts the updates from the installer, and then it saves the updates in a subfolder that is named "Extracted" in the folder from which you ran the command.

Method 2: Microsoft Update

The update is also available from the Microsoft Update website.

There are no prerequisites for installing this cumulative update.

This cumulative update replaces the September 2015 cumulative update 5.0.8308.933 for Lync Server 2013 web components server.

To install this cumulative update package, install the WebComponents.msp package on computers that have one of the following server roles:

  • Lync Server 2013 - Standard Edition Server
  • Lync Server 2013 - Enterprise Edition - Front End Server

Removal information

To remove this cumulative update package, use the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the duplicate entries in the two sections after the <location path="Lync Server Internal Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"> and <location path="Lync Server External Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"> tags. After you do this, the two sections resemble the following:

  2. Delete the following entries at the end of the ApplicationHost.config file:

    • <location path="Lync Server External Web Site" overrideMode="Allow"/>
  3. Save the ApplicationHost.config file, and then restart IIS.
