How to update firmware and software for the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse

This article describes how to update firmware and software for the Microsoft Habu Laser Gaming Mouse.

Firmware installation instructions

  1. Plug the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse into a USB port on the computer.

    Important You must use the same USB port during the following updates.
  2. Run the software driver Setup program from the Habu software driver disc. Restart the computer if you are prompted.

    Note Complete this step if you have not installed the software that was included with the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse. Otherwise, go to step 3.
  3. Download the latest firmware update and the latest software driver update. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Obtain the updates. To do this, visit the following Razer Web site:Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.
    2. Click Downloads.
    3. Click Microsoft Habu.
    4. Click Microsoft Habu Driver/Firmware.

    5. Click Download, and then click Save.
    Note The firmware update and the new software driver enable the 32 kilobytes (KB)-onboard memory feature on the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse. If you do not have to have this feature, no updates are required.
  4. Extract the downloaded compressed file that has a .zip file name extension to a location on the hard disk. This file contains both the firmware update and the software driver update.
  5. Before you install any updates, exit all currently running programs. Additionally, make sure that the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse is plugged in and is working.

    Important The Windows Found New Hardware Wizard may appear during the firmware update. You must complete the steps in this wizard within several seconds or this firmware update will fail. Additionally, to complete this wizard, you must use a second mouse or the keyboard keys such as TAB, ENTER, and the arrow keys.

    Open the firmware folder that you extracted, and then double-click Update.exe. Do not use the computer until the firmware update is finished.
    • If you have already installed the software driver from the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse packaging, go to step 6.

    • If you have not previously installed the software driver for the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse, follow these steps:
      1. When you are prompted to install the Freescale USB JW32 ICP device, click Yes this time only, and then click Next two times.
      2. If you receive a dialog box that states that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
      3. The Update dialog box will show that the firmware update failed. Go to step 5d to update the firmware.
      4. Unplug the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse and then plug it back into the same USB port. Run Update.exe again from the extracted folder. Do not use the computer until the firmware update is finished.
      Important When the firmware update is complete, unplug the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse and then plug it in to the same USB port again. Until you do this, the computer cannot recognize the new firmware information, the Habu Laser Gaming Mouse does not work, and you cannot close the completed firmware update dialog box.

Software driver installation instructions

If you update the firmware, you must also update the software. If you have not previously installed the software driver for Microsoft Habu Laser Gaming Mouse, go to step 3. Steps 1 and 2 remove any earlier version of the Habu software driver. You must remove earlier versions of the Habu software driver before you can install this update.
  1. Start the Habu software driver update. To do this, run the Setup.exe file from the extracted Software folder. By doing this, you remove any earlier versions of the Habu Software driver.
  2. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the driver, click OK. Restart the computer if you are prompted.
  3. If the computer is a Dell portable computer that has a touchpad, you must remove the ALPS driver before you install the Habu software. Then, reinstall the ALPS driver after the Habu software is installed.
    Note If you do not use the touchpad as a mouse, you can skip this process.
    To remove the ALPS driver, follow these steps:
    1. In Windows Vista, click Startthe Start button , type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

      User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

      In Windows XP and earlier versions, click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. Click ALPS Touch Pad Driver, and then click Remove.
    3. Follow the prompts to remove the driver. Restart the computer if you are prompted.
  4. Install the Habu software driver update by running the Setup.exe file from the extracted Software folder, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  5. If you receive a dialog box that states that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
  6. Restart the computer if you are prompted.
  7. If the computer is a Dell portable computer that has a touchpad, install the ALPS driver. To obtain the latest ALPS driver, visit the following Dell Web site:
