Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment that has Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a later update rollup installed.

  • You create a retention policy tag for the Calendar folder or for the Tasks folder. To do this, you run the New-RetentionPolicyTag cmdlet together with the Type parameter set to Calendar or to Tasks in Exchange Management Shell.

Note You cannot create a retention policy tag for the Calendar folder or for the Tasks folder by using Exchange Management Console.

  • You add the retention policy tag to a retention policy, and then you apply the retention policy to a mailbox.

In this situation, the retention policy does not work for the Calendar folder or the Tasks folder of the mailbox.

Cause

This issue occurs because Exchange Server 2010 SP1 and later update rollups that come before this one do not support retention tags for the Calendar and Tasks folders. Therefore, the Managed Folder Assistant does not process items in the two folders.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
