Important: Cortana in Windows as a standalone app is deprecated. To learn about support for Cortana in Teams, as well as new and exciting ways to get help with your email, calendar, and tasks, see End of support for Cortana in Windows and Teams

To make your personal digital assistant as helpful as possible, we’re shifting how we integrate Cortana into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps. As part of our standard practice, we’re ending support for Cortana in older versions of Windows that have reached their end-of-service dates.

Although still able to search your files or the web, we recommend that customers update their devices to continue using Cortana. You can access the Cortana content you created previously, such as reminders and alarms, in the latest version of Windows.

Check for updates

To update your version of Windows, select the Start button > Settings Update & Security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates

If a feature update is available for your device, it will appear separately on the Windows Update page. To install it, select Download and install now.

For more information about Windows updates, go to Windows Update: FAQ.
