Consider the following scenario:
- You use NVMe drives on a computer that's running Windows Server 2012 R2 or an earlier system version.
- The NVMe drives are installed by using the StorNVMe.sys Windows built-in driver.
- The drives don't support volatile write caching.
In this scenario, the functionality that depends on SCSI Mode Sense commands (such as creating a raid) don't work.
To work around this issue, upgrade the operating system to Windows Server 2016.
Or, check with the hardware vendor for appropriate third-party disk drivers.
For all usages except mirror boot volumes (that use a mirror volume to host the operating system), dynamic disks are deprecated. For data that requires resiliency against drive failure, use Storage Spaces. Storage Spaces is a resilient storage virtualization solution.
