Use reactions in new Yammer

Note: Reactions are available only in new Yammer.

Reactions now enable you to express a range of emotions on Yammer. At the same time, reactions allow you to have nuanced insights into how your colleagues feel about the content you are posting.

Note: You can now choose your skin tone for the Like and Thank hand reactions. See Use diverse skin tones for Yammer reactions for more information.

Reactions help your leaders and community managers identify the type of content that is generating deeper levels of interest within your organization.

Here are the reactions now available on Yammer:

  • Like: The thumbs-up Like is the default action item for a conversation. This reaction allows you to react quickly to a conversation starter or comment that appeals to you.

  • Love: This reaction allows you to express yourself when you read conversation starters or messages that deeply resonate with you. Some examples of when this reaction could be used:

    • Conversations about the importance of work-life balance

    • Deeply insightful conversations on a topic that interests you

  • Laugh: This reaction allows you to express yourself on posts or messages that you find humorous. An example of when this reaction could be used:

    • A colleague shares a funny video or GIF

  • Celebrate:: This reaction allows you to express yourself when you are celebrating a co-worker’s personal or professional milestone, or a team accomplishment. Some examples of when this reaction could be used:

    • Launching a new feature, or a new feature getting accolades across the industry

    • A co-worker celebrating a personal milestone-welcoming a new baby, getting married, getting promoted

  • Thank: Yammer's superpower lies in how you can leverage it to seek information from people who are more than one degree away. With this reaction, you can express your gratitude and appreciation towards a person or a situation. Some examples of when this reaction could be used:

    • A colleague responds to your request for information or resources

    • A co-worker makes a post about bringing in doughnuts on a Friday

  • Sad: This reaction allows you to express compassion in difficult times or express sadness over a situation. Some examples of when this reaction could be used:

    • A co-worker posting about the loss of a much-loved pet

    • A colleague leaving the organization

How to react to conversations

  • To react to a conversation starter or comment, hover over Like and choose a reaction.

  • The most popular reactions appear on the bottom right of the conversation starter or on the top right of your comment.

  • You can only leave one reaction on a post or comment.

How to remove or change your reaction

  • To change your reaction, hover over your current reaction and choose a different one.

  • To remove your reaction, click on your current reaction.

How to see who has reacted to a post or comment

  1. To see who has reacted, click on the icons or the count showing up at the bottom right of the post, or at the top right of the comment.

  2. 2. A dialog box then opens up with tabs at the top for each reaction. Click on a tab to see who has used that specific reaction on the post.

How to react to conversations

  • To react to a post or comment, long press the Like icon and choose a reaction.

How to remove or change your reaction

  • To change your reaction, long-press your current reaction and choose a different one.

  • To remove your reaction, tap on your current reaction.

How to see who has reacted to a post or comment

  1. To see who has reacted, tap on the icons or the count showing up at the bottom of the post or the top right of the comment.

  2. A sheet slides up with tabs at the top for each reaction. Tap on a tab to see who has used that specific reaction on the post.

FAQ

Q: Is this feature available on the classic Yammer experience?

A: No, this feature is only available on the new Yammer experience. On the classic experience, you can only see the total count of reactions on a conversation or a reply, but you can't see what reactions were used. You would need to opt-in to the new Yammer to get the full reaction experience.

Q: Is this experience available on mobile?

A: Yes, this experience is available on both iOS and Android. It is also available across our integrations on the Outlook Web Application, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft SharePoint.
