FIX: SQL Server Managed Backup to Windows Azure tries to back up database snapshots in SQL Server

Symptoms

When this issue occurs, the backup operation fails and you receive an error message that looks something like the following:
[SSMBackup2WAAdminXevent] Database Name = <database_name>, Database ID = <database_id>, Stage = <stage_name>, Error Code = 3002, Error Message = Cannot BACKUP or RESTORE a database snapshot. [SQLSTATE 42000]BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000], Additional Info = Retrying Backup.


Cause

This issue occurs because backing up a database snapshot isn't supported in SQL Server 2014 SP1 and SP2.

Resolution

Service pack information

This issue was fixed in the SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1 (SP1) . See the SQL Server 2016 build versions .

Cumulative update information

The issue was fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server:
