The file size of the PDF file generated by SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services is larger when compared to the earlier versions of SQL Server

Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
  • You publish a SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services report that contains multiple pages to a report server.
  • The report contains images that reference binary image data in a database.
  • The images are located in the report header or report footer area.

In this scenario, when you export this report to a PDF file, the file size of the PDF file is larger than the PDF file that is generated by an earlier version of SQL Server.

For example, for a six-page report, the file size of the PDF file that is generated by an earlier version of SQL Server may be 100 KB. However, the file size of the PDF file that is generated by SQL Server 2014 could be six times larger, or 600 KB.
