Multiple upload control fails to upload large files in SharePoint

Symptoms

Multiple upload control fails to upload large files to SharePoint before the max allowed limit is reached.

Cause

The multiple upload ActiveX control can fail due to an out of memory exception when an uploaded file is large. The issue is most likely to occur for files which are larger than 300 MB in size.

Resolution

Users can avoid the issue by using one of the following workaround solutions:

a. Use the single upload control
b. Use Explorer View

NoteIn order to upload large files via Explorer View, you will first need change a registry key on your client computer.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
