Mac users are familiar with the concept of Widgets on the macOS. They are fairly easy to enable and access, and offer useful information or help whenever needed. Microsoft Edge saw this as an opportunity to offer users a helpful and flexible way of consuming information.

You can now enable a widget powered by Microsoft Edge. This widget offers information that millions of users across the world seek out every single day – news!

That’s right - MSN news Top Stories will now be available for consumption via the Microsoft Edge widget in the notification tray. To turn on the MSN news widget:

  1. Select the clock in the menu bar to reveal the macOS notification widgets tray

  2. Scroll to the bottom of tray to find and select the Edit button. This will open the widget edit mode

  3. On the left side pane, locate and select Microsoft Edge to see the widgets powered by the Microsoft Edge browser

  4. Drag the MSN News widget to the right most pane and place it as needed. Close the widget edit mode by clicking the Done button or by selecting the Esc key

You will now see the MSN New widget in notifications tray, with Top Stories displayed automatically. Select any news headline of your interest to launch and read the corresponding news article in Microsoft Edge.

Personalized and automated

News stories will automatically be optimized based on your region and language preferences. This will happen without any additional input from your end. If a particular language is not available in your region, news will be shown in a language that is default for that region. If you wish to see the news for a different region, you can go to System Preferences > Language and Region and select the region of choice. But please note that this change could impact other applications as well.
