Method 2: Run the System Update Readiness Tool
Use the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve this issue. This tool will scan you computer for inconsistencies that may cause errors to occur. To run the System Update Readiness Tool, follow these steps:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
Type command promptin the search box.
In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run as administrator.
In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands exactly as they appear. Press the Enter key after each command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
To fix this, try the method below. If this doesn't resolve your issue, proceed to the next step.
Method 1: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Method 2: Run the System Update Readiness Tool
Use the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve this issue. This tool will scan you computer for inconsistencies that may cause errors to occur. To run the System Update Readiness Tool, follow these steps:
In the table below, click the download link that matches your version of Windows . If you're unsure of which version of Windows you are running, follow these steps:
Click the Start button, then type msinfo32 in the Search box. Click msinfo32.
Your version of Windows will be listed next to OS Name and your file type (x64 or x86) will be listed next to System Type.
Choose the appropriate language in the Change Language list, and then click Download.
When you are prompted to do so, click Run to start the installation.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install the System Update Readiness Tool.
Note: The System Update Readiness Tool scans for inconsistencies in your computer while it is being installed. Typically, a scan takes less than 15 minutes. However, the tool may take longer on some computers. Although the progress bar may appear to stop, the scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.
Note: In a default installation of Windows 7 and Windows Vista, the System Update Readiness file is in the following folder:

Fix it for me
To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix it button or link. In the File Download dialog box, click Run and then follow the steps in the Fix it Wizard.
This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem. Then, go to the Did this fix the problem? section.
Let me fix it myself
To fix this, register the Softpub.dll, Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll, and Mssip32.dll files. To register these files, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
