Introduction
Microsoft Office 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates for Office 2013. This service pack includes two kinds of fixes:

Previously unreleased fixes that are included in this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, these fixes include improvements in stability, performance, and security.

All the monthly security updates that were released through January 2014, and all the Cumulative Updates that were released through December 2013.
Resolution
How to determine whether you have SP1 installed
In order to determine whether SP1 is already installed, you can look for the program version in the list of installed programs in the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. If SP1 is installed, the version will be 15.0.4569.1506 or later. Additionally, if you have installed the SP1 update for a Windows Installer (MSI) product, SP1 will be listed in Installed Updates in that same Control Panel item.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for installing this update.
Restart requirement
You have to restart the computer after you apply this update.
How to obtain and install the service pack
Note: If you have the Click-to-Run version of Office installed, you will be prompted to update automatically to the SP1 version. There is no need to install an update using one of the methods below, which only apply to a Windows Installer-based (MSI) installation. Note Before you install these service packs, you should make sure that you have sufficient disk space. For caching, the packages may require up to four times their file size in remaining disk space during installation.
Method 1: Microsoft Update (recommended)
To download the service pack from Microsoft Update, go to the following Microsoft website:
Microsoft Update You can opt in a computer to the Microsoft Update service, and then register that service with the Automatic updates to receive the SP1 update. Microsoft Update will detect which products that you have installed, and then apply all updates to the products. Note On Microsoft Update, this service pack is included in KB 2850036.
Method 2: Download the SP1 package from Microsoft Download Center

Known issues and behavior changes
You may experience the following known issues and behavior changes regarding this service pack.
Blank application tile for pinned applications in Windows 8 or 8.1
If the Service Pack 1 update is uninstalled on a computer that is running Windows 8 or 8.1, an Office application tile on the start screen is blank without an application name or icon if the application is pinned to the Start screen. To work around this issue, repair the Office installation in the Programs and Features item in Control Panel.
Known crashing versions of COM add-ins are blocked from starting Office 2013 applications
Microsoft has identified several COM add-ins for Microsoft Office applications that are reported to crash in large volume. In this SP1, the problematic versions of these add-ins that are blocked from starting are listed as follows.
If you want to re-enable these add-ins, follow these steps:-
Open the Options dialog from the File tab.

Select the Add-Ins tab.

Select COM add-ins in the Manage list, and then select Go.

Select the check box next to the add-ins in the COM Add-Ins menu that you want to enable.

Select OK.
