Dragon Copilot for Epic quick start guide

First, ensure that Dragon Copilot SmartSections are added to your note

Add Dragon Copilot SmartSections to your note in Epic Hyperdrive before recording so you can view the AI summaries that Dragon Copilot generates. You can select a current SmartPhrase that already includes the Dragon Copilot SmartSections, or add them manually to a personal SmartPhrase or a note using one of these dot phrases:

Record your first patient encounter

1. Open Epic Haiku or Canto on your mobile device and select a patient.

2. Select DAX Copilot at the bottom of the screen.

3. Select the ambient recording button. Select the same button to stop the recording.

Open Dragon Copilot

Dragon Copilot gives you powerful time-saving AI capabilities and clinical insights to ensure that your clinical documentation is as accurate and complete as possible.

1. Navigate to the note.
   When Dragon Copilot finishes processing your recording(s), an alert appears in Hyperdrive. Select Go to Note in the alert to open the Epic Notes activity or navigate to the Notes activity in Epic manually.

2. Launch Dragon Copilot.
   Locate any ambient SmartSection, such as HPI or A&P, and select "DAX Copilot" or "Dragon Copilot" from the Action menu.

   The embedded Dragon Copilot window opens within the encounter, where you will have access to powerful new AI tools.

Get oriented

1. Use Session tabs to navigate through a patient session.
   Timeline is the default view when you open Dragon Copilot.
   Memos is where you can capture content separate from the note for a patient visit.
   Note is where you will find the clinical summary of your patient visit.
   Orders will capture directives pertaining to medications, laboratory tests, x-rays and imaging, and procedures.
   Transcript is a written version of the conversation between you and the patient.

2. Access settings and more in the upper-right corner of the screen. These contain useful tools with resources and configuration settings.

   Select a microphone for dictation and ambient recording, access microphone button settings.
   Access settings for ambient recording language, Auto-style, microphone, general, style and format, Library, profile and more.
   Open session details.
    Open split view display.

3. Dictation, ambient recording, quick AI actions, and a prompt field are available in the bottom section of Dragon Copilot.
   Select the library icon  to access saved Texts, Prompts, and customizable templates. Learn more
   Select a quick AI action to apply a style to your note or run a pre-canned prompt. Learn more
   Select the dictation microphone icon   to use your voice to dictate and navigate. Learn more 
   Select the ambient recording button   to add to your recording from Dragon Copilot.
   
   Enter your AI prompts in the prompt field. Use this box to enter prompts to edit your note, create documents, make queries, and retrieve information. Or, Learn prompt basics ​​​​​​​

Set your specialty for better notes

When you select a specialty, your generated notes are optimized for your clinical specialty by default. Set your primary specialty in Settings  > Profile.
