If your desktop, laptop, tablet, or Surface is lost or stolen, use the Find my device feature to locate and lock it remotely.

To find your device:

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com/devices. If you're prompted to sign in, use the same Microsoft account you used to sign in to the lost device.

  2. Select the Find my device tab, and then select your device from the list on the left.

  3. You'll see a map with a highlighted location. Select the Find button to ensure this map is updated with the device's most recent known location.

  4. In the meantime, a new search will start. Wait a bit and your device's location should be updated.

When you find your device on the map:

  1. Select Lock > Next.

  2. Enter a lock-screen message for anyone who finds your device to see.

  3. Select Lock.

  4. Once your device is locked, you should reset your password for added security. Select Reset password and follow the instructions.
