When you paste a slide with a footer (slide numbers, text, or date) into a deck where the footer is unchecked in the Slide Master, the footer text appears in the top left corner of the slide. This text doesn't appear when the presentation is played in slide show but the text isn't selectable so you can't change or remove it.
This occurs in PowerPoint 2016, PowerPoint 2019 and PowerPoint in Office 365.
Microsoft is aware of and investigating the issue. In the meantime, follow these steps as a workaround:
Click Home, and in the Editing section, click Select > Selection Pane...
Select the placeholder that you want to make changes to. Toggle between showing or hiding the selection using the eye icon to find the correct shape.
Click Drawing Tools > Format, and in the Size section increase the height and width.
You should now be able to select the shape, move it around or delete it.
