The =UPPER(text) function returns all uppercase for a text string or a referenced cell.

  • In the cell to show the results, type =UPPER(text), where text is a cell or a quoted text string.
For example, =UPPER(B7) returns an uppercase version of text in cell B7.

  • For explicit text, quote the text in the formula. For example, =UPPER("end of document") returns END OF DOCUMENT.

  • Alternatively, on the Formulas tab, select Text and choose UPPER. Type the text to change in the dialog and select OK

Tip: Substitute LOWER or PROPER in the formula to create lowercase, or proper case text.
