Dictation lets you use speech-to-text capabilities in OneNote for Android to take notes by using the microphone in your mobile device along with a reliable Internet connection. Using dictation instead of typing on your mobile keyboard is a quick and convenient way to capture your thoughts and ideas.
Dictate your notes
In OneNote for Android, do the following:
-
On the home page, tap the microphone icon in the lower right corner.
Note: You may be prompted to grant OneNote permission to access the microphone in your device if you are using dictation for the first time.
-
Wait for OneNote to confirm that it's "Listening..." before you begin to speak. As you talk, the on-screen microphone animation will pulsate to confirm that it's detecting your voice.
-
To pause dictation at any time, tap the microphone button on your screen. To resume recording, tap the microphone button again.
Use voice commands while recording
While your are dictating notes, you can use a variety of voice commands to format your notes or insert special characters.
-
To insert punctuation into your spoken notes, say supported words and phrases like "period," "question mark," or "comma" without pausing. To insert a line break, say "new line." To start a new paragraph, say "new paragraph."
Tip: See the "Punctuation" section later in this article for a list of other available voice commands.
-
To insert special symbols, say "ampersand," "dollar sign," or "smiley face."
Tip: See the "Symbols," "Mathematics," "Currency," and "Emoji" sections later in this article for a list of other available voice commands.
