Why does the Insert Delete error message occur?
In a PivotTable, you cannot edit the cells directly as you would typically do in a regular table. This is because of the underlying structure and purpose of the PivotTable and its cell contents. The Insert Delete error message occurs because Excel needs to maintain the integrity and consistency of the PivotTable data and layout.
Here's some helpful guidance, including links to multiple Microsoft Support articles.
If you want to delete a PivotTable, you can take these steps:
-
Right click on a cell anywhere in the PivotTable to show the context menu.
-
Pick Delete PivotTable.
OR
-
Select the entire PivotTable range (CTRL+A).
-
Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
To insert or delete rows or columns in a sheet that contains a PivotTable, you can move the PivotTable to a new sheet or a different location in the same sheet. Thus, it will not interfere with the rows or columns you want to insert or delete.
