If you would like to sign-in to the new Outlook for Windows, you will need your password. If you can't remember your password, try these troubleshooting options:Â Â
1 – Check the password manager in your browser or OS
The password for your account may be saved in your browser settings.Â
Microsoft EdgeÂ
-
Open Microsoft Edge and in the header, select Settings and more > Settings .
-
Under Your profile, select Passwords.
-
Find the provider for your account (for example, a Gmail account will be under the Google site and an iCloud account will be under the Apple site).
-
Select > and if prompted, authenticate yourself to the operating system to get access to the password information.
-
Next to the password you want to view, select the option to Show password.
Google ChromeÂ
-
Open Chrome and in the header, select More  > Passwords and autofill > Google Password Manager.
-
Find the provider for your account and select the site name for your account provider. If prompted, authenticate yourself to the operating system to get access to the password information.Â
-
Next to the password you want to view, select Show password.
Mozilla FirefoxÂ
-
Open Firefox and in the header, select Menu > Passwords. The Firefox about:logins opens in a new tab.
-
Find the provider for your account and select the site name for your account provider. If prompted, authenticate yourself to the operating system to get access to the password information.Â
-
Next to the password you want to view, select the option to view the password.
Mac, iPhone, or iPad
For Mac, iPhone, or iPad users, see Find saved passwords and passkeys on your Mac or Find saved passwords and passkeys on your iPhone or iPad
2 – Reset your email password
If you forgot your password, you might be able to reset it from your provider's web site if the password is auto-filled, or you're shown a Forgot password link which you can use to create a new password.
-
Go to your provider's email web site. If you're not sure who your provider is, look at the domain name for what comes after the @ symbol in your email address. See the section below, Find your email provider.
-
If your email and password is auto-filled, log in and follow the steps from your provider to view your existing password or to reset it.
Note: Your email provider may require you to use an app password which is a unique password that only works for a specific app, like new Outlook for Windows. If your provider recommends using an app password, you need to create the app password through your provider. Once that's done and you're ready to add your account to Outlook, you'll enter the app password to the password field in Outlook instead of using your regular password.
Tip: Many iCloud accounts require an app password. If you're using an Apple email account such as an @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com and you're having trouble signing in to Outlook, see Add or manage an iCloud email account in Outlook. -
Open the new Outlook for Windows, and sign-in with your new password (or app password if you created one).
Find your email provider
The following is a list of a few third-party providers. If your provider isn't listed below, do an internet search to find your provider. (For example, "How do I sign in to @<add the name of your provider>".)
Microsoft is the provider for personal email accounts with @msn, @outlook, @live, or @hotmail. Try signing in to these accounts at outlook.live.com. For password issues, see Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password.
