Use the information in this article to troubleshoot network and service connection errors in OneNote.

Issue

While attempting to sync, OneNote may display one of the following errors:

  • 0xE000006B

  • 0xE000078B

  • 0xE0001464

  • 0xE0001467

Background

These errors can occur in OneNote for any of the following reasons:

  • You may have lost network or Internet access.

  • You have Internet access, but OneNote’s connection to its back-end service is blocked, possibly by a firewall or proxy settings.

  • You may be experiencing intermittent, temporary network or server connectivity issues. 

  • OneNote is having trouble communicating with the Web server where your notebook is stored. Most likely, there’s been a server timeout, which can occur when the server is busy and temporarily can’t respond to new requests.

Resolution

To resolve these errors, try any of the following:

  • Check your device’s network settings and make sure you have access to the Internet. You can verify this by visiting www.bing.com on your device. If you have lost Internet access, you can still keep using OneNote, and your notes will be saved offline and synced when you are back online.

  • Try opening the notebook in OneNote for the web. To do this, open a modern Web browser (such as the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari), visit www.onenote.com, click Sign In, and then enter your account credentials for the same account with which the notebook is associated. If you’re able to access your notebook there, then the issue may be with your firewall or proxy settings. Ensure that Microsoft 365 URLs and IP address ranges are allowed by your firewall or proxy settings.

  • Wait a few minutes and then try syncing your notebooks manually. You can do this by either pressing Ctrl+S on your keyboard, clicking the Sync Now button in the Page Sync Status flyout or message bar, or right-clicking the notebook and selecting Sync. On mobile versions of OneNote, pull down the Pages list with your finger until a progress indicator appears.

OneDrive

If you’re syncing your notes to OneDrive, try syncing your notes again in a few minutes. If you suspect a service outage, you can check OneDrive service status at https://portal.office.com/servicestatus.

SharePoint

If you’re syncing notes to SharePoint, try syncing your notes again in a few minutes, or contact your organization’s IT administrator for help with resolving this issue.
