On the File tab, select Options.

On the Proofing tab, select AutoCorrect Options and choose the AutoFormat as You Type tab.

Select or clear the "Straight quotes" with “smart quotes” check box and select OK.
Tip: If' you'd like to add a fancy pull quote, see Insert a text box.

On the Review tab, select the down arrow next to Editor and choose AutoCorrect Options.

Under AutoFormat, select or clear "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box.

Select OK to save your changes.

On the Word menu, choose Settings and select AutoCorrect.

Select the Autoformat As You Type tab.

Under Automatically as you type, select or clear "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes" check box.

Close the window to save your changes.
