A chat is a private conversation with one or more invited participants. To chat with more than one person as a group, see Start a group chat.

  1. Select Teams Chat Tab iconChat in the left pane, and choose  New chat buttonNew Message at the top of the chat pane, or press Ctrl+N on the desktop or Alt+N on the web. 

  2. In the To box, type names of one or more individuals.

  3. Compose your message in the box at the bottom of the chat and select Send buttonSend.

Tip: To turn a chat into an audio or video call, select Call buttonAudio call or  Teams video call button iconVideo call in the upper right.
