You can use the TEXT function to format a date so that it displays as a day. For example, if cell A1 had a date of 1/1/2020, you could use the following formula in another cell, and it would display it as "Wednesday":

=TEXT(A1,"dddd")

Tip: To show a date as "Tuesday, July 19, 2022", format the date as Long Date

For more info, see Apply a date/time format.
