To ensure your Skype experience remains secure and reliable, support for old Skype versions (below version 8.100) will end in September 2024. Here’s what you need to know and do:

Steps to Update your Skype version or Switch to Skype for Web

  1. Update Skype:

    • You can click here to download the latest Skype update. Make sure that your Skype is up-to-date, especially if it's an old version (below version 8.100).

      • Note: For the best possible experience, we highly recommend for all Skype users to update to the latest version. This update ensures a smoother and more secure experience.

  2. Check Your Skype Version:

    • Open Skype.

    • Tap or Click on your profile picture.

    • Go to Settings from the drop-down menu.

    • Then, select Help & Feedback to check your version.

  3. Switch to Skype for Web (if update is not supported):

    • Open your web browser.

    • Go to Skype for Web.

    • Sign in with your Skype credentials.

    • Use Skype directly from your browser.

      • Note: Some older devices may not support newer versions of browsers, which could impact the usability of Skype for Web. If this applies, consider using another device for Skype.

  4. Updates for Users on old Windows versions:

    • Check for Updates: Go to the Windows Store and find the latest Skype version.

    • Or, Install Standalone App: Download the standalone Skype app from the Windows Desktop Download

    • Or, Switch to Skype for Web: Follow the steps above for using Skype through your browser.

      • Note: Administrators should enable updates for Skype if blocked.
