Check the power cable connection

Make sure the power cable is plugged in securely.

Note: When you unplug the power cable from your Surface Studio 1, Surface Studio 2, or Surface Studio 2+, unplug it from the wall first. The plug that’s attached to the base has a lock to keep it in place when you move your Surface Studio, Surface Studio 2, or Surface Studio 2+. If you need to unplug the power cable from the base, slide the plug away from the base to release the lock.

I can’t find the power indicator light

There’s no power indicator light on any Surface Studio. If the power is on and your Surface Studio isn’t sleeping or hibernating, the screen should be on. If the screen isn’t on, touch the screen, move your mouse, or press the power button to turn it on.

Surface Studio won’t turn on

If you see a black screen with no Windows logo or your Surface Studio seems to be turned off or in a power-saving state and you can’t wake it, try the following:

  1. Press and release the Power button. Wait several seconds.
    If that doesn’t work:

  2. On your keyboard, simultaneously press the Windows logo key   + Ctrl+Shift+B. You should hear a short beep while Windows tries to refresh the screen.

If that doesn’t work, force a restart:

  1. Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds until the screen turns off, then release the Power button. Press and release the Power button to turn Surface Studio back on.

  2. If that doesn’t work, press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds. Keep holding down the Power button—the screen will turn off, your Surface Studio will restart, the Windows logo screen will appear, then the Windows sign-in screen will appear. When you see the sign-in screen, release the Power button.

  3. If that doesn’t work, send your Surface Studio in for service. To view the service and repair options available to you, please view How to get service or repair for Surface.

When I try to wake my Surface Studio from sleep, the screen turns black, and I have to restart it

Make sure you have the latest Windows updates. In Windows Update, select Check for updates. If any updates are available, install them.

Open Windows Update

I need a new power cable

Contact Support to get a replacement cable.

The USB-C port (Surface Studio 2) or USB-C ports (Surface Studio 2+) won't charge my USB-C device, or my USB-C device isn't working

Make sure that you're using the cable that came with your USB-C device when you try to charge it through the USB-C port on your Surface Studio 2 or any USB-C port on Surface Studio 2+. Not all USB-C cables support charging or data transfer.

My Surface Studio 2 or Surface Studio 2+ doesn't receive power from its USB-C port or ports

Surface Studio 2 has a USB-C port and Surface Studio 2+ has 3 USB-C ports. However, none of the USB-C ports receive inbound power. You should use the power cord that came with your Surface Studio 2 or Surface Studio 2+ for power.
