The Accelerator Gateway is a lightweight, secure service installed on‑site. It connects a healthcare organization’s imaging systems to the cloud‑based Precision Imaging Network (PIN). It enables AI workflows without major infrastructure changes, making it well suited for environments with strict privacy, security, and compliance requirements.

Why the Accelerator Gateway matters

Imaging systems like PACS and scanners operate in highly secured networks to protect patient data. The Accelerator Gateway is designed for these environments. It provides secure, outbound‑only access to cloud AI services without opening the network to external traffic or violating security policies.

How the Accelerator Gateway works

Image shows architectural diagram of Accelerator Gateway

1. Secure, outbound‑only connection

The Gateway creates a secure connection from the hospital network to PIN using outbound traffic only. No inbound firewall rules are required, reducing security risk and aligning with clinical IT standards.

2. Secure transfer of imaging studies

The Gateway receives imaging studies (typically via DICOM), then:

  • Encrypts the data

  • Compresses it for efficient transfer

  • Sends it securely to the cloud for AI analysis

Studies are stored locally only for a short time and are automatically deleted after successful transfer.

3. Tracking AI workflows

The Gateway tracks each study as it moves through the AI process. It monitors progress and reports statuses such as queued, in progress, or complete. It can also work with the AI Results Manager (ARM) to return AI results to PACS or other clinical systems.

4. No inbound firewall changes

All communication is initiated from inside the healthcare network. No inbound connections are required, helping prevent unauthorized access and simplifying deployment.

Supporting healthcare security and compliance

The Accelerator Gateway supports healthcare security requirements by:

  • Keeping initial image handling on‑site

  • Sending only encrypted, temporary copies to the cloud

  • Avoiding long‑term data storage

  • Ensuring patient data remains controlled and auditable

  • Meeting operating system and encryption standards
