Symptoms
Assume that you have Microsoft SQL Server 2017 on Linux. When you try to back up a database by using Virtual Device Interface (VDI) and multiple devices are specified, the backup operation may hang during GetCommand.
Resolution
A fix for this problem is included in Cumulative Update 7 for SQL Server 2017.
About SQL Server 2017 builds
Each new build for SQL Server 2017 contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for SQL Server 2017.
Workaround
You can change the VDI client code to wait until the first device has completed one call to GetCommand before secondary devices call GetCommand.
