Gridlines are for visual reference and can't be printed.

On the View tab, check or clear the Gridlines box.
Tip:Â To show or hide gridlines in a table, see Table gridlines.
Ruled lines are a visual page background and also can't be printed.

On the Draw tab, select Format Background and choose Rule Lines or Grid Lines, or None to remove ruled lines.
Adding or removing gridlines isn't currently possible in Word for the web. You can, however, add or remove gridlines in the Word desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
