Like paper notebooks or three-ring binders, OneNote lets you organize information in notebooks that contain pages and sections. You can add pages, sections, and additional notebooks where and when you need them, and you can just as easily rename, move, or delete them.

A typical OneNote notebook is made up of one or more notebook sections. Within each section are the individual pages and subpages on which you take notes. OneNote isn't limited to any particular organizational style. You can organize your notes in any way you like, and if you change your mind, it's easy to change the way your notes are organized.

Create a new notebook

Start with a single notebook. You can create additional notebooks for different subjects or projects whenever you want.

  1. Open OneNote for Android.

  2. Tap the Notebooks toggle at the top of the home page. This takes you to the notebooks page.

  3. Tap Notebook+ to create a new notebook.

  4. Type a name for the notebook in the Notebook Name box.

If you are logged in with multiple accounts, select the account in which you want to create a notebook.

  5. Tap Create.

Create a new section

Sections in OneNote are like the color tabs in a typical 5-subject paper notebook that hold a separate collection of pages. However, in OneNote, you can have as many sections as you want.

  1. Open OneNote for Android.
  2. Tap the Notebooks toggle at the top of the home page. This takes you to the notebooks page.
  3. Tap the notebook in which you want to create the section.
  4. At the bottom of the screen, tap Section+ to create a new section.
  5. Type a name for the section in the Section Name box.
  6. Tap Create.

Create a new page

To create more space in your notebook, you can add as many pages as you want.

  1. Open OneNote for Android.
  2. Tap the Notebooks toggle at the top of the home page. This takes you to the notebooks page.
  3. Tap the notebook, and then tap the section in which you want to create the page.
  4. At the bottom of the screen, tap Page+ to create a new text page.

You can also create a page from the home page without having to navigate to the specific notebook and section.

  1. Open OneNote for Android.
  2. At the bottom of the home page, tap Page+ to create a new text page.

From a section or the home page, you can also tap Pen to create an ink note, Mic to create a voice note, or Camera to create an image note.

Note

Pages you create from the home page are saved in the default section. You can choose a new default section in Settings.
