Assigns the selected shape to one or more layers or cancels a shape's layer assignment.

On layer(s)

Highlights the layers to which the selected shape is assigned. To change the layer assignment, click a different layer name. To assign the shape to additional layers, press CTRL and click the layer names.

Preserve group member layers

Specifies that the group's member shapes retain their current layer assignments. This setting becomes active when you assign the group to a layer. Selecting this option has no effect unless the currently selected shape is a group.

For example, you might assign a desk to the furniture layer and a computer to the electronics layer and then group them. If you then assign the group to the den layer, the desk and computer retain their previous layer assignments as well.

If this option is not checked and you assign a group to a layer, all of the group members are assigned to the new layer. Their previous layer assignments are canceled.

New

Opens the New Layer dialog box, in which you can type a name to create a new layer.
