Trigger a workflow when an emoji is used on a Teams message
Try it!
You can now use emoji reactions in Teams to kick off automated workflows. That means when you or a teammate react to a message with a specific emoji—like a ✅ or 📌—it will automatically create a task, send a reminder, or take another helpful action. It’s a simple way to save time, reduce manual steps, and keep things moving without needing to click through menus or set up complicated tools.
Other examples:
-
React with❗️to create a helpdesk ticket and escalate an issue.
-
Use 👀 to send a message to the right channel for visibility.
There are a few ways to set up workflows to kick off when an emoji is used on a message:
Create from a template
-
Open Workflows from any entry point.
-
Use the search bar and type “emoji” to see all templates that use emoji reactions. You can also go to the Templates page to browse for the templates.
-
Select a template that fits best with what you want to do.
-
You’ll be guided through a few quick steps to set up your emoji trigger:
-
Choose the emoji you want to use as a trigger.
-
Decide how often it should run—every time someone reacts, or just the first time?
-
Choose who can trigger it—just you, or anyone in the chat or channel (even guests)?
-
Select the group chat or channel where it should work.
-
-
Fill out the rest of the required information on what the workflow does after its triggered.
-
When you're done, select Save to create your workflow.
Tip: If you want the same emoji to trigger a workflow in both a group chat and a channel, you’ll need to set up separate workflows for each.
Create from scratch
