Save your file either to your computer, or to an online service like OneDrive. Then find out how to share it with others, even if they have an older version of Office.

After you finished your document, Word 2013 has many options for saving, sending, exporting, printing, and sharing it.

And you'll find all of those options here in the backstage.

Like Save As.

You can save a document using online services.

I have already logged on to my account in Word, so now I can save the document the same way I'd save to My Computer.

Only now, I can access it from any computer connected to the Internet.

Click Share after you save a document, if you want to share it with others.

Now you have a pretty good idea of what is involved in making the switch from Word 2003 to Word 2013.

There's just one more thing you should know and it is about Compatibility.

In the second video, we converted a Word 2003 document to the new docx format.

The two formats are different, but really the only time it will make a difference in the way you work is when you want to use a new Word feature or tool.

What if you have the opposite problem? And you want to share the docx file with someone who has Word 2003?

If that's the case, you have two options.

First, in Word 2013, click Info, click Check for Issues, then Check Compatibility.

The checker shows what you might lose when you convert to the Word 2003 format.

If you decide to move ahead, then you'll do the opposite of what we did in Movie 2.

Click Save As, choose a location, and then in the Save As dialog box, change the Save as type to Word 97-2003.

Then the person you are sharing the file with can open the document in the older version of Word.

The second option for the person using Word 2003 is to go to Office.com and Download an add-in called the Compatibility Pack.

After they install it on their computer with Word 2003, they can then Open docx files in their older program.

A link to the Compatibility Pack is available at the course summary.

So that's it. You should have all the information you need to make the switch to Word 2013.

Of course, there's more you can learn. So, check out the course summary for more information on Word 2013.
