View insights about questions and answers in Yammer

The Question & Answer section of the Community Insights dashboard provides community managers with insights about the creation and dissemination of knowledge through the Questions & Answers feature in Yammer. For example, a community manager can see whether or not questions have best answers marked and the ratio of unanswered to answers questions, as well as other data.

  1. Clicking on the Questions & Answers tab takes you into the Questions & Answers insights tab. 

  2. The insights view is defaults to Questions & Answers activity in the last 28 days. The other option is for 7 days. 

  3. Clicking on the ellipses enables the user to export Questions & Answers insights for 7 days, 28 days, or 365 days. The default is 28 days.

Questions and answers

It can be helpful for community managers to see the numbers of questions and answers over a period of time. This insights chart shows the number of New Questions and New Answers posted in the chosen period (7 days or 28 days).

1. New Questions: This insight shows the number of questions created in your community in the chosen period. 

2. New Questions trend: This trend shows the rate of increase or decrease in the number of new questions asked in the chosen period, compared to the previous period. 

3. New Answers: This insight shows the number of answers created in your community in the chosen period. 

4. New Answers trend: This trend shows the rate of increase or decrease in the number of new answers provided in the chosen period, compared to the previous period. 

5. New Questions chart: This chart shows the number of daily questions asked in the chosen period. 

6. New Answers chart: This chart shows the number of daily answers provided in the chosen period. 

Questions marked with a best answer

This chart shows the number of questions with a marked Best Answer in the chosen period (7 days or 28 days).

  1. Questions with Marked Best Answer: This insight shows the number of Questions that have been marked as Best Answer in the chosen period (Last 28 days or 7 days).

  2. Questions with Marked Best Answer trend: This trend shows changes in the number of newly marked best answers compared with the last period (28 days or 7 days).

  3. Questions Marked Best Answer chart: This chart shows the number of questions marked with best answer on a daily basis for the chosen period (28 days or 7 days).

Question and answer ratio

This chart shows the status of new questions posted in the chosen period (7 days or 28 days). Hover over the chart to see the percentage of Questions with Best Answers, No Best Answer and Unanswered Questions in your community.

  1. Unsanswered: This insight shows the percentage of questions with no answers in the chosen period (7 days or 28 days).

  2. Answered: This insight shows the percentage of questions without Best Answers in the chosen period (7 days or 28 days).

  3. Marked Best Answer: This insight shows the percentage of answered questions with Best Answers in the chosen period (7 days or 28 days).

Who can see questions and answers insights? 

For public communities, any member of the Yammer network can see the insights.  

For private communities, only members of the community can see the insights. 

How to export questions and answers insights 

Questions and answers insights can be exported to CSV for three time periods: last 7 days, last 28 days and last 365 days. They are presented in the same data export as Community Insights.

  1. Go to the Questions & Answers Insights page for the community.

  2. Choose Last 7 Days, Last 28 days or Last 365 Days

  3. Click the Download button.

Date is the day for which metrics are provided. All subsequent metrics pertain to this day only.

Active People is the number of people who posted, read, or reacted to a message in the community.

Active Members is the number of community members who posted, read, or reacted to a message in the community.

Members Who Posted Messages is the number of community members who posted one or more messages in the community.

Members Who Reacted to Messages is the number of community members who reacted to one or messages in the community.

Members Who Read Messages is the number of community members who read one or more messages in the community.

Active Non-Members is the number of people who hadn't joined the community but posted, read or reacted to a message.

Non-Members Who Posted Messages is the number of people who hadn't joined the community but posted one or more messages.

Non-Members Who Reacted to Messages is the number of people who hadn't joined the community but Reacted one or more messages.

Non-Members Who Read Messages is the number of people who hadn't joined the community but read one or more messages.

Messages Posted is the number of messages posted in the community.

Messages Posted by Members is the number of messages posted by community members.

Messages Posted by Non-Members is the number of messages posted by non-community members.

Messages Read is the number of community conversations that were read.

Messages Read by Members is the number of messages read by community members.

Messages Read by Non-Members is the number of messages read by non-community members.

Messages Reacted is the number of community messages that have reactions.

Messages Reacted to by Members is the number of messages reacted to by community members.

Messages Reacted to by Non-Members is the number of messages reacted to by non-community members.

Questions Asked is the number of questions asked in the community.

Total Answers is the number of answers that questions received in the community.

Questions Marked as Best Answer is the number of questions marked as best answer in the community.

A: The 7-day and 28-day counts are updated daily. 

Q: Are Questions & Answers insights available for external, non-Microsoft 365 connected and the All Company communities? 

A: Questions & Answers insights are available for external and non-Microsoft 365 connected communities. They are also available for the All Company and All Network communities.
