Communities in Microsoft Teams for personal use is no longer available. To prepare, you can start a group chat to stay connected and download the community messages and media you want to keep.
What’s changing?
As this change rolls out, you won’t be able to create new communities. You can continue to use your existing communities for now.
This change applies only to Communities in Microsoft Teams for personal use. It doesn’t affect Teams for work or school.
Stay connected with your community members
Create a group chat in Teams and add the people you want to stay connected with.
Your community won’t automatically become a group chat. Community members, messages, and other content won’t automatically transfer to the new chat.
Save your community messages and media
To keep a copy of your community messages and media:
- Go to the Export My Data page.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account you use for your community.
- Choose wehther to download your chat history, media, or both.
- Submit your request and follow the prompts.
- Return to the export page periodically to check the status of your request.
- When your export is ready, select Download.
- Important: Export the community data you want to keep before you leave or delete the community. If you're removed from a community, you won’t be able to export data from that community. When a community is deleted, its members lose access to the community data.
