Symptoms
You create a shortcut (.lnk file) for Windows Internet Explorer in the Favorites folder. This shortcut opens a specified URL in a new Internet Explorer window. However, this shortcut does not work correctly when you click the shortcut under the Favorites menu on the menu bar in Windows Explorer. In this situation, your homepage is displayed in the new Internet Explorer window instead of the specified URL. Notes

The Favorites folder refers to the %userprofile%\Favorites folder.

This issue does not occur when you click the shortcut from the Favorites button on the toolbar in Internet Explorer 8.

Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.

Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

Type FEATURE_SHELLEXEC_FAVCENTER_KB952729, and then press ENTER.

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

Type Iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.

Right-click Iexplore.exe menu, click Modify.
