Add AI tools to your Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat prompts

When you write prompts in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, you can add AI tools to get more task-specific and in-depth results from Microsoft 365 Copilot. Each of these intelligent tools specializes in generating responses for your particular needs.

Note: If you don't have a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, there are some limitations to using AI tools like agents in Copilot Chat. To learn about those limitations, see How Copilot Chat works with and without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Add AI tools to Copilot Chat

To add AI tools to your prompts in Copilot Chat, complete the following steps:

Go to Copilot Chat and sign in with your Microsoft 365 work or school account.
In the Message Copilot compose box, select Tools to open the tools menu.
From the Tools menu, select:
1. Researcher to create thorough reports with detailed research.
  1. Select Sources to refine which sources Copilot Chat should reference.
  2. Learn more about Researcher at Get started with Researcher in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
2. Analyst to receive in-depth insights of your data.
  1. Learn more about Analyst at Get started with Analyst in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
3. Designer to create AI-generated images.
  1. Select Image to choose what type of image to create and image size.
  2. Once your image is created, edit it using the [side-by-side image editing tools].
4. Explore more agents to go to the Agent Store and find other agents to use in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
With your tool selected, enter your prompt into Copilot Chat and select Send.
1. Copilot generates a response using the AI tool you selected from the Tools menu.
