Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You start the 64-bit version of Windows Internet Explorer. You click a Join online meeting meeting invitation to join an online meeting by using a Microsoft Lync Web App client. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

The web browser is not supported
Microsoft Lync Web App cannot open in this web browser.

This error message does not express the situation clearly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:

2514979 Description of the cumulative update package for Lync Server 2010, Web Components Server: November 2011

After you install the update, you will receive the following error message when you use Lync Web App to join an online meeting in the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer:

Lync does not support meeting join using 64 bit browser. Please open the meeting link in any supported 32 bit browser for meeting join to work.
