Symptoms
Assume that you use Query Store in SQL Server 2017 on a server that has more than 256 logical cores. When the Query Store is collecting runtime statistics, an access violation may occur. Eventually, SQL Server may fall into a non-yielding scheduler scenario and freeze.
Resolution
This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:
