This article applies to Microsoft Dynamics NAV for all countries and all language locales.

Symptoms

When you run the Export to Excel function on the "Analysis by Dimensions" report in non-English language versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 or non-English language versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1 (SP1), some non-English accented characters are displayed incorrectly in the Pivot Table Field List sheet. For example, when you use the French language version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, accented characters are displayed incorrectly as follows:

  • "Ann‚e" is displayed instead of "Année".

  • "P‚riode comptable" is displayed instead of "Période comptable".

  • "Co–t total" is displayed instead of "Coût total".

Another symptom of the same underlying problem is when the user receives the following error while attempting to Export to Excel from the "Analysis by Dimensions" Form:

The call to member PivotFields failed. Microsoft Excel returned the following message: PivotFields method of PivotTable class failed

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 service pack or the next Microsoft Dynamics NAV version that contains this hotfix.

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Technical Support Professional for Microsoft Dynamics and related products determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

  • The Execute permission for the System Object ID 5210 object and for the System Object ID 9015 object.

Note You do not have to have rights to the data stores unless you have to perform data repair.

Code changes

Note Always test code fixes in a controlled environment before you apply the fixes to your production computers.
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Change the code in the ExportData function in the Export Item Analysis View codeunit (7152) as follows:
    Existing code

    ...
    IF (ShowActualBudg <> 0) AND (ShowActualBudg <> 1) THEN
    ERROR(Text000);
    InitCharTables;
    WITH ItemAnalysisViewEntry DO BEGIN
    NoOfRows := CreateFile(
    ItemAnalysisViewEntry,ShowName,ItemFilter,Dim1Filter,Dim2Filter,
    Dim3Filter,DateFilter,LocationFilter,BudgetFilter,Sign);
    FileName := "3TierMngt".DownloadTempFile(FileName);
    CREATE(xlApp,TRUE,TRUE);
    xlApp.Workbooks._OpenText(FileName);
    ...

    Replacement code

    ...
    IF (ShowActualBudg <> 0) AND (ShowActualBudg <> 1) THEN
    ERROR(Text000);

    // Add the following line.
    CREATE(xlApp,TRUE,TRUE);

    InitCharTables;
    WITH ItemAnalysisViewEntry DO BEGIN
    NoOfRows := CreateFile(
    ItemAnalysisViewEntry,ShowName,ItemFilter,Dim1Filter,Dim2Filter,
    Dim3Filter,DateFilter,LocationFilter,BudgetFilter,Sign);
    FileName := "3TierMngt".DownloadTempFile(FileName);

    // Delete the following single line.
    CREATE(xlApp,TRUE,TRUE);

    xlApp.Workbooks._OpenText(FileName);
    ...
  2. Add a new local variable in the InitCharTables function in the Export Item Analysis View codeunit (7152), and then specify the variable as follows:

    • Name: ThreeTierMngt@1004

    • DataType: Codeunit

    • Subtype: 3-Tier Automation Mgt. (419)

  3. Delete the following variable in the InitCharTables function in the Export Item Analysis View codeunit (7152):

    BSTRConverterBody@1005 : Automation "{A3........."
  4. Change the code in the InitCharTables function in the Export Item Analysis View codeunit (7152) as follows:
    Existing code

    FOR i:= 65 TO 255 DO BEGIN
    c := i;
    CharsNavision[i-64] := c;
    END;
    IF ISCLEAR(BSTRConverterBody) THEN
    CREATE(BSTRConverterBody);

    BSTRConverterBody.ResetBSTR;
    BSTRConverterBody.AppendNextStringPortion(CharsNavision);
    CharsWindows := BSTRConverterBody.BSTR();

    IF STRLEN(CharsWindows) <> STRLEN(CharsNavision) THEN BEGIN
    IF (STRLEN(CharsWindows) = STRLEN(CharsNavision) + 2) AND
    (CharsWindows[1] = '"') AND (CharsWindows[STRLEN(CharsWindows)] = '"') THEN
    CharsWindows := COPYSTR(CharsWindows,2,STRLEN(CharsWindows) - 2)
    ELSE
    CharsWindows := CharsNavision; // Not possible to translate.
    END;

    Replacement code

    FOR i:= 65 TO 255 DO BEGIN
    c := i;
    CharsWindows[i - 64] := c;
    END;
    CharFile.CREATETEMPFILE;
    TempFileName := CharFile.NAME + '.txt';
    CharFile.CLOSE;
    CharFile.CREATE(TempFileName);
    CharFile.TEXTMODE := TRUE;
    CharFile.WRITE(CharsWindows);
    CharFile.CLOSE;
    TempFileName := ThreeTierMngt.DownloadTempFile(TempFileName);
    xlApp.Workbooks.OpenText(TempFileName);
    xlWorkSheet := xlApp.ActiveSheet;
    CharsNavision := xlWorkSheet.Range('A1').Value;
    xlApp.ActiveWorkbook.Close(FALSE);
    IF NOT ISSERVICETIER THEN
    ERASE(TempFileName);
    IF STRLEN(CharsWindows) <> STRLEN(CharsNavision) THEN
    IF (STRLEN(CharsWindows) = STRLEN(CharsNavision) - 2) AND
    (CharsNavision[1] = '"') AND (CharsNavision[STRLEN(CharsNavision)] = '"')
    THEN
    CharsNavision := COPYSTR(CharsNavision,2,STRLEN(CharsNavision) - 2)
    ELSE
    CharsNavision := CharsWindows; // Not possible to translate.
  5. Change the code in the FillOutItem function in the Export Item Analysis View codeunit (7152). Replace the two occurrences of the "IF ShowName THEN BEGIN" code as follows:
    Existing code

    IF ShowName THEN BEGIN

    Replacement code

    IF ShowName AND (Item <> '') THEN BEGIN
