You may experience a sync error when using Microsoft Teams meetings in your LMS. This article addresses how to troubleshoot the Canvas sync error and the Moodle sync error.

The Canvas sync error 

Receiving the Canvas sync error

Notes: 

  • This is the common Canvas sync error:

  • Sync Error: A Microsoft 365 Group must have owners, and no users corresponding to the instructors of the Canvas course could be found on the Microsoft side. If you recently added and removed course owners, a re-sync may resolve the issue. 

If you receive this error, ensure that you are logged into Microsoft Teams using the same email address that is synced with your Canvas LMS course. If you are not logged into Microsoft Teams using the same email address that is synced with your Canvas LMS course, follow these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams in a new tab.

  2. Log out from Microsoft Teams.

  3. Login again using the email address that is synced with your Canvas LMS course.

Note: If Canvas Sync Error still persists, contact your IT administrator.

Resolving the Canvas sync error 

To resolve the Canvas sync error, address the possible root causes.

Incorrect Lookup field configured by the tenant Admin - Canvas has an ability to configure mapping configuration between the Canvas and Microsoft AAD.

No user in AAD for the email ID - If an admin is unable to resolve the issue on their own, the admin contacts Canvas Support

The Moodle sync error

  • This is the common Moodle sync error:

  • Sync Error: A Microsoft 365 Group must have owners, and no users corresponding to the instructors of the Moodle course could be found on the Microsoft side. If you recently added and removed course owners, a re-sync may resolve the issue. 

If you receive this error, ensure that you are logged into Microsoft Teams using the same email address that is synced with your Moodle LMS course. If you are not logged into Microsoft Teams using the same email address that is synced with your Moodle LMS course, follow these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams in a new tab.

  2. Log out from Microsoft Teams.

  3. Login again using the email address that is synced with your Moodle LMS course.

Note: If Moodle Sync Error still persists, contact your IT administrator.

Resolving the Moodle sync error

To resolve the Moodle sync error, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Set up and configure your Moodle plugin.

  2. Go to Register your Microsoft Teams LTI for use in Moodle Classes.
