Protect shared content from unauthorized sharing during Microsoft Teams meetings with screen capture prevention.

Screen capture prevention is a Microsoft Teams Premium feature that helps protect sensitive meeting content by blocking screenshots and screen recordings on supported platforms.

How it works

When you turn screen capture prevention on in a Teams meeting, it helps keep discussions secure by:

  • Blocking screenshots and screen recordings taken with built-in device tools.

  • Blocking most third-party screen capture apps.

  • Limiting what attendees can view on unsupported platforms, reducing the risk of content leakage.

This is especially useful when sensitive topics, such as financial reviews, personnel matters, or confidential customer conversations, are discussed.

Supported platforms

For the best experience, encourage attendees to join from any of the following supported platforms:

  • Teams on desktop (Windows): Screenshots show a black rectangle around the meeting window, including popouts.

  • Teams on mobile (Android):  Screenshots and recordings are blocked. Attendees see a message indicating screen capture is restricted. Applies to key views such as stage, chat, participant list, notes, banners, Copilot panels, and more.

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms (Windows)

Unsupported platforms

  • Teams on desktop (MacOS), Teams on mobile (iOS), Teams on web, virtual desktop, Cloud Video Interop, Teams Rooms (Android): Attendees will join an audio-only experience.

Turn on screen capture prevention

Screen capture prevention is turned off by default but meeting organizers and co-organizers with Teams Premium licenses can turn it on for a meeting. Teams Premium isn't required for attendees.

To turn on screen capture prevention:

  1. Select Calendar  Teams Calendar tab icon in Teams.

  2. Open a meeting and select Options  Settings button.

  3. In Advanced protection  Privacy settings button, turn on the Prevent screen captures toggle.

  4. Select Apply.

Turn this setting on before a meeting starts. If it's turned on after the meeting starts, it will take effect after everyone leaves and rejoins.

In large meetings with more than 1,000 attendees, anyone joining after the first 1,000 attendees will join an audio-only experience.

Notes:

  • Screen capture prevention is available for private, scheduled meetings. Support for webinars will be going away soon.

  • Screen capture prevention no longer supports town halls. Town halls created before Dec. 16, 2025 with screen capture prevention turned on will run as audio-only (creating a new town hall is recommended).
