Introduction to AI Credits
With the introduction of AI features in Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions, we've implemented a credit system to help you fully leverage these advanced tools. AI credits are designed to measure and manage your usage of AI-powered features across various Microsoft products and services, giving you the flexibility and control you need.
What Are AI Credits?
AI credits measure your use of AI features within Microsoft 365 and Windows applications. Each action involving AI, such as generating text, creating a table, or editing an image, counts as one credit. For example, asking Copilot to “summarize my inbox” would cost one AI credit.
How Many AI Credits Do You Get?
-
Users of free apps like Designer receive 15 credits per month.
-
Microsoft 365 Personal and Family Subscribers get 60 AI credits per month, which can be used across various applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Forms, OneNote, Designer, Notepad, Photos, and Paint.
-
Copilot Pro Subscribers receive extensive usage of AI features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Forms, Designer, Notepad, Photos, and Paint.
Note: AI benefits are only available to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with additional Microsoft 365 Family members.
Managing Your AI Credits
AI credits reset on the first day of each month, regardless of your billing cycle. This applies to both free and paid plans.
If you use all your monthly AI credits, you can purchase additional AI credits by upgrading to a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, or by subscribing to Copilot Pro here.
To see how many AI credits you have available, visit your Account page.
Note: Copilot Pro subscriptions provide extensive access to AI features across Microsoft applications without worrying about credit limits.
Using AI Credits
AI credits can be applied to a range of AI-driven tasks, including:
-
Writing: Draft letters, get tone suggestions, or rewrite phrases in Word. Summarize email discussions in Outlook.
-
Photo Editing: Touch up photos or generate new images in Designer.
-
Travel Planning: Generate travel itineraries and check weather updates in OneNote.
-
Job Search: Craft cover letters and resumes, or practice interview questions with Copilot.
-
Personal Finance: Manage budgets and generate formulas in Excel.
The AI credit model is designed to enhance your productivity with AI-driven tasks in Microsoft 365. Whether you're using free apps or a Microsoft 365 subscription, AI credits help you make the most of the powerful tools at your disposal.
Note: Copilot in Excel requires AutoSave to be enabled, meaning the file must be saved to OneDrive; it doesn't function with unsaved files.
Note: Copilot features in Outlook apply to accounts with @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com email addresses and are available in Outlook.com, Outlook built into Windows, Outlook on Mac, and iOS and Android app.
