If your iPad has a cellular data connection, you can control whether you want to make Lync audio and video calls and share meeting content by using Wi-Fi only, or by using your cellular data connection when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi.

To view or change your data use settings:

  • On the my info screen, tap Options. The wi-fi settings will be displayed at top of the screen. Tap the Require Wi Fi… setting you want to change.

Here are the possible settings, default values, and their significance:

What this means

What happens if you change this setting…

Require Wi-Fi for VoIP

OFF

Lync will try to use Wi-Fi to make Lync calls, but when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi, Lync will use your cellular data connection.

…to ON: If you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, Lync will try to use Wi-Fi for calls. If you’re not connected to Wi-Fi when you make an audio or video call, Lync calls you back at the number you specify. In this scenario, you’ll be connected to the audio portion of the Lync call only. Video won’t be available. This might result in usage of your mobile voice plan minutes.

Require Wi-Fi for Video

ON

Lync will use only Wi-Fi to make Lync video calls. It will never use your cellular data connection to send or receive video.

…to OFF: Lync will use your cellular data connection to send and receive video when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, Lync tries to use the Wi-Fi network for video instead. Video isn’t available for calls connected via your mobile number over the cellular voice network.

Require Wi-Fi for Content

ON

Lync will use only Wi-Fi to receive meeting content. It won’t use your cellular data connection to receive meeting content.

…to OFF: Lync will use your cellular data connection to allow you to receive meeting content when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, Lync will try to use the Wi-Fi network to receive meeting content instead.
