What are group permissions in GroupMe?
Group owners and admins can change the group setting for Permission to manage members and who can edit group settings.
The permission options are:
- Everyone can edit: Equal editing rights to everyone in the group.
- Admin only: Only the group owner or an admin can edit group settings or manage the roster.
Change a group's Permission
As an owner or admin, you can change your current group chat permissions to Everyone can edit or Admin only from the group settings.
- Go to the group chat.
- Tap the group's avatar (group picture).
- Tap Settings

- Tap Permission.
- Select either Everyone can edit or Admin only.
Group owners in Admin only groups have an additional layer of control to block or unblock members:
- Go to the group chat.
- Tap the group's avatar (group picture).
- Tap Members, then tap Members again from the top of the screen.
- From the pop-up menu, select Members who left, then select Block next to each former member’s name to ban them from re-entering the group.
Note
The Banned Members and the Removed Members list shows previously banned or removed members. To unblock them, select Unblock or Add to group next to their name in the appropriate list.

- Select the dropdown next to All then select Members Who Left.
- Select Block next to each former member’s name to ban them from re-entering the group.
