Symptoms

When you open the Exchange Management Console (EMC) in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) environment, the EMC connects to a default server that has Exchange Server 2010 SP1 installed. On the Admin console only, the default server is the first Exchange server that has the Client Access server installed. You click on Microsoft Exchange On-Premises, select Properties, and then you click Browse to specify a server to connect to for remote PowerShell. In this situation, if the default server is an Exchange Server 2010 SP1 server, you will successfully get an Exchange server list. However, if the default server is an Exchange Server 2010 SP1 server that has Rollup Update 1(RU1), RU2 or RU3 installed, an empty list returns to you. You can only use the default Exchange server and cannot select other Exchange servers.

Cause

This issue occurs because the current build version of the Exchange Server 2010 that has RU1, RU2 or RU3 installed server does not match the build version in Active Directory. When the EMC checks for version restrictions, no Exchange server returns.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
