In the Reading Pane you may get a message "This message with restricted permission cannot be viewed in the reading pane until you verify your credentials. Open the item to read its contents and verify your credentials."

Currently, when using classic Outlook for Windows, you can't open an OMEv2 encrypted email if it was sent from a separate organization (what we call another tenant).

If you want to insert a digital signature into an email, you need to install a digital ID (certificate), which is verified by a third party. Before you can send and receive messages with encryption or digital signatures, or digital IDs, please follow the instructions to set up encryption in Outlook.

Once you exchange signed mail and install the certificate, you will be able to send encrypted emails. If you can't encrypt, you are missing the recipient's public key.

When you reply to an OMEv2 encrypted email from Outlook Desktop, you may get the following error message: “Microsoft Outlook was not able to create a message with restricted permission.”

To send and receive encrypted email messages, both the sender and the receiver must share their digital ID certificates with each other. Open a message that is digitally signed as indicated in the message list by a Signature icon.
