The Linked Fields field indicates whether there are OLE links to the task, resource, or assignment, either from elsewhere in this project file, from another Microsoft Office Project file, or from another program.

There are several categories of Linked Fields fields.

Data Type    Yes/No

Linked Fields (task field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    The Linked Fields field contains Yes when there is an OLE link to one of the task fields. The field contains No when there are no OLE links to any task field.

Best Uses    Add the Linked Fields field to a task sheet when you want to see whether the information for a task is a result of OLE links from somewhere else in the active project, another Project file, or another program.

Example    You have created OLE links from Microsoft Office Excel to various tasks in your schedule, and you want to see which tasks contain these links. You add the Linked Fields field to the Task Sheet view for added visibility.

Linked Fields (resource field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    The Linked Fields field contains Yes when there is a link to one of the resource fields. The field contains No when there are no OLE links to the resource.

Best Uses    Add the Linked Fields field to a resource sheet when you want to see whether the information for a resource is a result of OLE links from somewhere else.

Example    You have linked resource information in your schedule from a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet containing personnel information. You want to group the resources containing these links. You add the Linked Fields field to the Resource Sheet view.

Linked Fields (assignment field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    The Linked Fields field contains Yes when there is an OLE link to one of the assignment fields. The field contains No when there are no OLE links to any assignment field.

Best Uses    Add the Linked Fields field to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you want to see whether the information for an assignment is a result of OLE links from somewhere else.

Example    You have created OLE links from Microsoft Office Excel to various assignments in your schedule, and you want to apply a filter to display the assignments that contain these links. You add the Linked Fields field to the Task Usage view.
