Symptoms

Assume that you have a database in Microsoft SQL Server 2014, 2016 and 2017. If there's a corrupted partition in your database and you run the DBCC CHECKDB command, the SQL Server service crashes. Additionally, a SQL dump file is generated.

Resolution

This fix for this issue is included in the following updates for SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 13 for SQL Server 2017

Cumulative Update 5 for SQL Server 2016 SP2

Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3

Note This fix raises an error to check the database and then lets the DBCC CHECKDB command end gracefully without crashing.

Each new build for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for your version of SQL Server:

Latest cumulative update for SQL Server 2017

Latest cumulative update for SQL Server 2016

SQL Server 2014 build versions
